THE LEGACY & HISTORY OF STONE ROOFING COMPANY
1934: Roofing the Foundations of Excellence
Stone Roofing began its journey in 1934 with just a small team, focusing primarily on residential homes. In these early years, the company laid the foundation for what would become a long-standing tradition of quality and service. Starting with modest residential projects, Stone Roofing gradually built its reputation, eventually expanding into larger markets and more complex projects as the company grew.
1956 – 1967: Strategic Acquisitions and Foundations for Leadership
Stone Roofing’s early history is marked by significant milestones that shaped its foundation. The company initially began as the largest client of a major supplier, a relationship that ultimately led to Stone Roofing purchasing the business during the supplier’s receivership. This acquisition included 22 trucks, equipment, and a secretary, establishing the company’s operational base. During this time, Stone Roofing received its contractor’s license and officially became a California Corporation. The first main office was set up in Rosemead, marking the start of its journey as a leading player in the roofing industry.
1967 – 1969: Diversification in Roofing
Between 1967 and 1969, Stone Roofing expanded its operations by focusing on projects with schools, new construction, and residential apartments. The company also took on “piece work” and union contracts, such as gas station projects, to diversify its portfolio. During this period of growth, Stone Roofing strategically acquired two other roofing partnerships, further strengthening its market presence. The main office was also relocated to El Monte, positioning the company for continued success and expansion in the roofing industry.
1975 – 1977: Expanding Capacity and Shifting Focus to Commercial Roofing
From 1975 to 1977, Stone Roofing made significant strides in its operations and specialization. The company purchased its first large tanker truck, capable of holding 3,000 gallons of hot asphalt and covering around 300 square feet, enhancing its capacity for larger projects. In 1976, Stone Roofing expanded further by acquiring a new partnership, which brought in fresh crews, equipment, and a series of new projects. During this time, the company focused on large tilt-up projects, particularly in the public works and school sectors. Notably, 1976 also marked the year Stone Roofing transitioned away from residential projects to concentrate exclusively on larger commercial endeavors.
1977 – 2023: A New Era of Growth and Leadership in Commercial Roofing
In the 1980’s Stone Roofing experienced a pivotal shift when the current owner acquired the company and its contractor’s license in 1987, marking the beginning of a new era. Stone Roofing has continued to grow and adapt, expanding its services to commercial buildings across California, Washington, Arizona, and Utah, growing its size in employees exponentially. At this time, the company began to be recognized as one of the top commercial roofing businesses, specializing in a wide range of systems and services.
